What or Who Inspires you and your woodworking?
« on: March 16, 2012, 02:23:00 am »
Recently I posted a video on Woodworking Inspiration. In this video I name some of my woodworking role models and also talk to a young up and comer in the woodworking world.  I wanted to ask you guys and gals. What or who Inspires you? or your designs and projects? Is it a well known woodworker or maybe a school shop class teacher when you were in school. or how about a family member? Whom ever it may be or what ever it may be, tell me about it. Id love to hear.  Here is a look at my latest video... Woodworking Inspiration.

I find my inspiration for my mugs on tv, movies, internet and mostly from my family that sends me pics of mugs that they have seen.  As for the rest of my work it has come from every where.

Michael the great thing about this craft is inspiration is all around us, and you can take that inspiration and create unique projects from it... you make some awesome mugs.. I can tell the hard work and time you put into the detail and designs..

My inspiration comes from several sources.  Certainly, Carl Jacobson (HaydenHD) and Eddie Castelin (editing out the hokie "Watch!!!" bits to get to the meat) are the two 'go to' guys on YouTube for my wood turning projects .  I also rely quite a bit on Wood Working for Mere Mortals' for project ideas (cutting board was really cool).  I also, as others do, take inspiration from my surroundings.  I now look at things differently when I am shopping or visiting -- 'Hey, I think I can make that!' has become a new mantra for me. ;)  Oh, and thanks to my brother-in-law (an organ builder and carpenter extraordinaire) for suggesting this hobby as a way to make my retirement more productive.

Walsh, what a great reply.. Family has a way of inspiring up and helping to point us in the right directions from time to time.. I am very much like you when it comes to my surroundings. It is no longer just a casual shopping trip for me anymore, now as I look at something, I really look at it, examine it.. and also say..."Hey I could do that"  there are so many things out there some may not even be made of wood, that I think....hmmm how would I do that out of wood..and then it gets the gears turning in my head...LOL..
