Title: Michael Borgs Latest Projects
Post by: Wood_Jedi on December 10, 2011, 01:21:58 am
Recently Michael Borg of Borgs wood send me over his latest projects. He made bracelets for his daughter and niece for Christmas using a mesquite log with turquoise inlay. Which is a very nice touch!! He finished them off with 4 coats of varnish followed with 2 coats of carnauba wax. He also sent over some pictures of a set of wine glasses he made...Very nice Michael!! When talking about the wine glasses Michael states:

I made these wine glass stems as a prototype for a inside out turning that I was planning, they are from a pine 4x4. My 11year old daughter saw them and made me promise that she could have them. I wasn't even going to finish them until she asked for them.
Seeing that she is only 11 and would not be able to use them for wine for another decade I decided to make the leather lined box so she would have a safe place for her to keep them. The wood for the box sides is some wood that was left over from the Keepsake box that I made for her last year for Christmas. I think it is Sycamore (not real sure) and the lid is Spalted Maple. There is 1/2" of foam under the leather. Finish on both the box and wine glass stem is Varnish, about 4 coats on the box and I don't remember how many on the wine glasses."
